Einstein route

The expression $\partial_\mu C^{\mu\nu}=J^\nu$ is retained as a tensor divergence law, not as an Einstein equation by itself. The rescued gravitational model begins from a covariant action:

$$ S[g,C,\psi]=\int_M\sqrt{-g}\left[\frac{R-2\Lambda}{16\pi G}+\mathcal L_C+\mathcal L_m\right]d^4x $$

and yields

$$ G_{\mu\nu}+\Lambda g_{\mu\nu}=8\pi G\left(T_{\mu\nu}^{(m)}+T_{\mu\nu}^{(C)}\right). $$
