A new way of looking at your medical records...

‘Simplifying something is a hard problem to solve’ has never been more relevant as it is today in the world of product management.

Look at the most popular daily apps of today. Pre COVID, Zerodha was adding 1 lakh new users per month. The demographics for such users was within the age group of 25-35yrs. This sudden shift from legacy Demat accounts to Zerodha, legacy Mutual Fund systems to smallcase was driven by a need for simpler information.

A lot of people think Zerodha is popular due to its pricing. But, that is not the case. There are many others who offer as much for less. It is a better product, which is what gets people to us - Nithin Kamath

Similarly, Digit Insurance grew by 44% with a premium of Rs 3,243 crore (as of March 2021), while the overall industry growth was only 5% last year. Players like Acko, Ditto are adding new users not necessarily on the basis of better product commercials but just on the basis of simplifying information for the user.

Advantages for such companies is that their legacy counterparts, with complex documentation, hidden charges, a cluttered UI interface are designed against the user rather than for the user.

The ‘tech’ in health tech

Another area where an expert becomes the gatekeeper of all information is health. In India, per doctor, there are more than 1,500 patients. It is not always easy for a doctor to take a user centric. The lack of time and incentive to adapt to new technology, propensity to follow status quo has contributed to the somewhat sluggish nature of health tech in India.

This attitude is juxtaposed against the growing awareness and motivation of Indians to become the ‘best’ version of themselves. But do they really feel in control of their health? During user research, one of our users mentioned, “I love using google to search for health related information, but everything just leads to cancer.”

Current scenario and pain points

In the age where Aadhaar cards and driving licenses are digitised and saved in Digilockers, we still maintain a physical file for our health records. The more technologically able and organised amongst us are saving it in google drives, emails etc.

Consider a few examples:

<aside> ➡️ Your mother is ill in your hometown, she has a Telehealth consultation with a doctor. The doctor would need to know the latest blood reports, medical condition of your mother since the last 3-4 months.

<aside> ➡️ You notice this time that your cholesterol went up and want to investigate when did it start deteriorating. Subconsciously, you try making certain lifestyle changes to improve your health and now want to track more regularly.

<aside> ➡️ You're a caregiver for a chronic patient suffering from diabetes. You want to monitor their HbA1c every month.
