Let’s start with some background information on why I’ve started this experiment.

When starting my blog, I was initially planning on making posts on how to use colored pencils and alcohol-based markers. But one day I got this idea. What if I would explain how to draw a car?

I tried making a guide based on a photorealistic car I was drawing at the time: a McLaren P1 LM HDK. I quickly learned that my process was way to complex for me to explain in in a simple and easy-to-follow way.

I started experimenting with simplifying my drawing to only alcohol-based markers and drawing them in a more logical and easy-to-explain way. That’s how I created my Lamborghini racecar guide.

After creating it, I let is sit for a while. It quickly became my most popular posts with over 200 monthly pageviews, which was a lot for me back than. So I made more car drawing guides.

After a while, I also started exploring other topics like pokémon, Christmas, animals, etc. After a while, I noticed a pattern. These new guides were doing way better then most of my car drawing guides, so I stopped creating those car drawing guides. They were also by far the most time consuming to make.

The last one I made was published on Jan 15 of this year. But since then, I’ve received some email on why I stopped. I never answered. I didn’t know what to say.

I want to get back into creating car drawing guides again. This experiment is the first step. I want to see if I’ll actually like making those drawing again. And if I do, I might turn some of them into step-by-step guides.
