Despite how much I hated sitting in traffic, it seemed like I could never escape it…

My dependence on the approval of others was a traffic light that would constantly turn red

… especially when I was running late

I, somehow, would always find myself stuck in the rush hour of my own self-doubt

My creativity would anxiously look to the crossguard, waiting for permission to cross the street

Only allowing itself to be perceived at the flip of another’s sign, signaling that it was safe to do so

… I no longer wish to move through life that slowly…

I no longer feel comfortable allowing my peace to reside in such a labile neighborhood

People are ever-changing

Like the advertisement billboards we drive past every day on the way to work

Or the roads to terminals at the airport, which seem to always be undergoing remodeling

If we always seek to hear the infinite opinions of those around us before moving

We’ll be too late to catch our flight

If we stay frozen in place until we can find someone to join us in executing our own dreams

We’ll find ourselves sitting on standby at the airport of life
