Day 1 - Mon., 23rd March 2026 - Home to Heacham

B&B - 72 South Beach Road, Heacham, PE31 7BB, United Kingdom

We left a few minutes early with waggy tails and beamy smiles. The optimism of going on holiday continued as we sailed through the Dartford Tunnel without be slowed by anything more than the speed limit.

There was a lot of traffic on the roads, especially lorries, but none really slowed us down. We made it to Horsey Gap, famed for its seals, in just over 3 hours. Hugo wanted to make some new friends, but they didn't want to play.

Half-a-mile back there was a WWII themed restaurant, called Poppylands. We stopped there just to get something to eat, but the place is amazing.

The chap who owns it has been collecting WWII memorabilia since he was 4 and also has a museum, as one does. He runs a 1940s car and does not have any post-war equipment indoors. Someone bought him a microwave for Christmas and it is still in its box.

From there it was a 64 mile hop to Heacham (or 1¾ hours). We got lucky with the traffic again. The slow vehicles turned off just as we got to them. It was our day.

The shed is nice. We are close to the beach and the “town”. There is even a Chinese!

We even had a visitor …

Jan decided she wanted something to eat from Tesco's, so we drove down there. Then we took Hugo to see the beach for a walk, but it was dark by then. We couldn't see much, but we could hear the bats in the trees (or maybe they were in my belfry).

Mileage at Home: 59,915 (09:25)

Milage to Horsey Gap: 60,064 (12:30)
