A measure of how much variation in the gold-standard measurement is explained by the criterion device (e.g., CMJ jump height measured using the Output Sports IMU as the criterion device versus a lab-based force plate system as the gold-standard measurement).
R² reflects how much of the variation in the gold-standard measurement is explained by the criterion device, but it does not capture absolute agreement between measurements from the two devices (1). An R² value close to 1 indicates a strong relationship between measurements from both devices, with most of the variation in the gold-standard measurement explained by the criterion device. An R² value closer to 0 indicates a weak relationship between devices, where little of the variation in the gold-standard measurement is explained by the criterion device.
