Have you developed an exercise, a workshop, or a way of teaching with or about AI that belongs in front of more educators than the ones in your room? We'd love to include it in Grain.

Grain is a cookbook of critical and creative AI literacy exercises for educators across audiovisual and creative practice, co-produced by AIxDESIGN and Netherlands Film Academy. It's for film educators, workshop facilitators, and anyone teaching creative practice in the middle of all of this. Recipes can be hands-on, analog, weird, serious, playful, short, long. What they share is that they help people think critically and make creatively with AI, together.

🪴 What we're inviting

We're collecting exercises that help people engage critically and creatively with AI in the context of film, time-based media, storytelling, and creative practice more broadly.

These can be:

• Hands-on experiments with AI models and tools (image generators, chatbots, code assistants, video models, etc.)
• Analog activities that reveal computational logic through embodied practice
• Critical readings, watchings, or listenings with a structured discussion format
• Provocations, games, or role-plays that unpack how AI sees, thinks, or makes
• Exercises that help people position themselves, figure out what's right for them, and decide how they want to relate to AI in their practice
• Anything else that lands in a room and helps a group think

Recipes can be solo or collaborative, beginner or advanced, 15 minutes or a full day. The only hard requirement is that someone else, reading your recipe, can run it themselves.
