🧱 The First Principles of The Limping Child

  1. The presentation of a ‘limping child’ can range anything from a mild antalgic gait to absolute refusal to weight bear.
  2. Differential diagnoses should always take into account the age of the child, as some conditions are more likely to present within particular age ranges, whereas some are common to all ages and should always be ruled out, e.g. fractures or septic arthritis
  3. Threshold of investigation, as a general rule in paediatrics, is much higher. Investigations are recommended only when specific red flags are elicited in history or examination.
