Mitternacht takes place approximately twenty years after 🟩 RSR - Bloodtiger and 🔜 RSR ii - “Sunset”, turning its focus toward the galaxy that emerged from their aftermath.

The governments of the recovering galaxy are investigating an immense, supernatural-seeming indigo anomaly covering a significant part of a world devastated by war two decades earlier. Within its boundary, life appears to have been replicated as it existed before the destruction: people, streets, buildings, and ordinary routines preserved beneath an impossible sky. Expeditions enter, but reliable information does not return.

The phenomenon appears to be controlled by an ancient Amber Krowen that calls itself “Siamese”, though who it is, what it wants, and whether the world within the anomaly is restoration, replication, or something stranger remain unclear.

Fate and Safety

At the heart of Mitternacht is a conflict between free will and perfect safety. If hunger, grief, loneliness, scarcity, and permanent loss could all be abolished, would that world be salvation—or merely a beautiful prison if its peace required the surrender of free will? The story also asks whether destiny is something people fulfill, resist, or impose upon others in the name of protection.

Main cast

The story is planned to follow an only barely scratched character named Shina and is planned to feature the return of Rio Narro, Amos, and Dare among its principal cast.

Development status

The central setting, mystery, and themes are established, while much of the journey through them—and the exact nature of the indigo phenomenon—remains in development.

The story is also planned to reveal answers to some of the saga’s larger, overarching mysteries surrounding Darkness, including an exploration of the source of the darkness that has plagued several of its central characters throughout the series.
