Eko is a sixteen-year-old experimental mage from the Imperial Heartlands and the sole successful survivor of a classified magical research program operating under the authority of King Felix IV. Although the king's name and resources are attached to the project, its true architect is Valentina. Her previous experiments into magical adaptation, artificial spell retention, and forced magical resonance eventually produced the conditions that made Eko possible.
Eko was not created to become the strongest mage in the kingdom. He was created to become an adaptive magical asset capable of observing conventional magic, understanding its structure, reproducing a usable approximation, and combining weaker copied principles into new applications.
His defining ability is Resonance.
Project Resonance was a secret Imperial initiative backed by King Felix IV. The crown provided the protection, funding, facilities, secrecy, and human subjects required to keep the work hidden from the wider Imperial Heartlands.
The true mastermind behind the program was Valentina.
Her research pursued a brutal question: could a human magical system be altered so thoroughly that it could learn magic through exposure rather than natural affinity, bloodline inheritance, divine blessing, or years of formal training?
Eko is the answer that survived.
Valentina's earlier experiments laid the groundwork for Resonance. She developed the theories, procedures, and magical alterations that eventually allowed Eko's body to perceive and reproduce accessible magical frequencies.
King Felix IV regarded the project as a potential military and intelligence advantage. Valentina regarded it as proof that magical adaptability itself could be manufactured.
Her pursuit of that proof was absolute.
She did not stop when subjects died.
She studied the failure, altered the procedure, and moved on to the next human being.
Eko was not the first subject used in Project Resonance.
There were others before him.
Every known predecessor died as a result of the experimentation. Their bodies rejected the alterations in different ways: catastrophic magical overload, organ failure, internal rupture, nervous-system collapse, unstable mana reactions, and other lethal consequences of forcing incompatible magical structures into a human body.
Some deaths were immediate. Others were prolonged.
