The King of Seconds descends from an ancient hidden human family of chronomancers. Their discipline is deliberately passed from father to son through ritual, instruction, and lived inheritance. Each successor receives fragments of previous generations: tactical instincts, failed timelines narrowly avoided, warnings, techniques, memories, and muscle memory.
The inheritance grants enormous mastery but carries a psychological cost. Every successor risks losing pieces of his individuality beneath the accumulated weight of previous lives. The King of Seconds' deepest fear is becoming nothing more than the sum of his predecessors.
During the earliest generations of Astra Noctrya, Izanara Nozomi worked closely with this family line. The first chronomancers served as mortal witnesses and custodians of dangerous knowledge during the formation of the world. They learned to observe causality, preserve hidden history, and recognize instability in reality itself.
Their family became tied to forbidden knowledge concerning the foundations of reality. Certain truths cannot be spoken, written, symbolized, or meaningfully transmitted even when a successor genuinely wants to reveal them. The knowledge remains internally understood but cannot cross that boundary into ordinary communication.
This phenomenon is known within the lineage as The Silence Between Seconds. Its true origin remains unresolved.
After The Edit, Izanara Nozomi disappeared from the family's direct life. The relationship did not end.
Every new successor eventually receives a message from her. The delivery method changes from generation to generation: words may appear inside a sealed journal, manifest through an artifact, emerge through a temporal disturbance, or arrive by some other impossible route. Izanara does not physically return to explain herself. She gives each successor enough guidance to continue the lineage while remaining absent.
The family therefore possesses a living relationship with someone their later generations have never actually met.
The current King of Seconds surpassed every known predecessor. His temporal precision, inherited instincts, perception, combat ability, and compatibility with the lineage are without precedent.
