Since 1 June 2025, nurse independent prescribers must see a patient face-to-face before prescribing a non-surgical cosmetic medicine. That includes the medicines kept in the emergency kit.

The NMC was the last regulator to fall in line. The GMC and GDC had already moved, and the GPhC confirmed the same position for pharmacist prescribers in April 2025. Across every prescribing profession, the direction is now identical: no remote prescribing for cosmetic treatments.

What this changes in practice

• If your prescriber works remotely, the old booking flow no longer fits. The face-to-face consultation has to happen before the prescription is written.
• Your records should show when and where each consultation took place, and who held it.
• If you use an external prescriber, the handover between practitioner and prescriber is now the first thing a careful reader checks.

A calm way to test yourself

Could you show, for your last ten treatments, where each face-to-face consultation is recorded? If yes, the new rule mostly confirms what you already do. If not, that gap is worth closing before anyone official asks.
