We set off at 9:30.
Then meandered gently down the M25 to the M3. After a quick stop at the Winchester services, it was down the M27 to Poole Harbour. We stopped to eat our picnic lunch overlooking the harbour. The wind was freezing, but the views were lovely.
Then onto the Poole Harbour ferry.
The last leg was to cloudy Wareham … but at least there was no wind.
We parked in the long stay carpark in Streche Road and walked the quarter of a mile to our hotel, The Anglebury, built in 1550.
Having booked in, we went for a wander and went into St. Martin's by Wall church. The building had been bought by T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) who found that the frescoes were Saxon and that the church was built in about 700AD.
Then back with our cases to our “bijoux” room.
Then we had an evening meal at the Toby Carvery in Poole before an early night.
We woke early and went for an early morning wander. Whilst cold, the sky was that cloudless early morning blue. Only in a small town like Wareham could you stand in the middle of the road and take a photo down the High Street.
We walked down to the quay (yes, Wareham has a quay) where they were setting up the Saturday market.
