Sample audit · iOS app · Recorded 24 November 2025

Core question: Why are new users failing to reach first value, and what should we change first?

This is a sample of what an Activation Audit delivers. It is based on a real audit of the MovesMethod iOS app, recorded on 24 November 2025. The onboarding was later redesigned along the lines below (Profile → Goals → Plan). The case study shows what happened next: bearliu.com/case-study/movesmethod

Scope and inputs

Product. MovesMethod, a daily mobility app for iPhone. Its promise on the first screen: fix tightness and stiff joints with 5 minutes a day.

Journey audited. App Store → first launch → onboarding (19 steps) → free trial and paywall → dashboard and first move.

The new user. Someone with tight or stiff joints who wants a short daily routine they can stick to.

First value, as the founder defines it. Completing a first mobility assessment and getting a personal movement report back.

What the product gives first. A "Mobility Score" on the plan page at step 18, shown before any assessment has taken place. In this walkthrough the assessment itself was never reached (F-09).

That gap, between the value the founder has in mind and what a new user actually gets first, drives the most important finding in this audit.

Method. I went through the live app as a first-time user on an iPhone and recorded the walkthrough. No analytics were supplied, so the findings below come from the experience itself. They are ready to be checked against funnel data.
