The heart God can lead

In this message, Cecil Talbot walks through James 4:1–6 and asks three honest questions: Who controls my heart? Where is my heart? What is my “it”? With stories, Scripture, and real-life examples, he shows how our desires, words, choices, and conflicts reveal what is really happening inside us. This message is a clear call to let God search our hearts, remove the noise, and lead us into faithfulness, humility, and the bigger purpose He has for us together.

Daily Devotions

Day 1: Who’s in Control?

Scripture:

“God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him.” — James 4:5

Devotional:

Your heart is the control center of your life. It affects your words, choices, emotions, and relationships. That is why God cares so much about it.

Sometimes we say, “I just lost control.” But many times, what comes out of us was already inside us. Anger, fear, jealousy, pride, and hurt can hide in the heart until pressure brings them out.

The good news is this: Jesus does not shame us when He shows us what is in our hearts. He invites us to surrender it. As Pentecostal believers, we believe the Holy Spirit lives in us, leads us, teaches us, and gives us power. But we still have to choose to follow Him.

Spiritual health means letting the Holy Spirit lead. Emotional health means being honest about what is going on inside us.

Today, ask yourself: “Who is really leading my heart—me or the Holy Spirit?”

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, I need You to lead my heart. Show me what is really inside me. Help me surrender my emotions, desires, and choices to You. I want to be faithful to Jesus. Amen.

Today’s Step:

Before you react today, pause and pray: “Holy Spirit, lead me right now.”
