made irresponsibly by pinky, play at your own risk.
I love Catan—probably my favorite board game so far. I’m all about hoarding resources, building, raising an army, and terrorizing my friends. But it takes forever to set up, and I can’t really take it to a bar with me.
Normally, when we go out, we just bring a deck of cards and play drinking games like Ride the Bus… and yeah, I’m not very good at it, so I end up riding the bus all the time (or maybe I’m actually really good at it if the goal is to get shitfaced).
So it got me thinking… what if I made a Catan to-go—something I could take to a bar and actually have fun with?
I was visiting my friend in NYC in January 2026, and of course, with my luck, I got stuck there during a snowstorm for two days. Flights kept getting canceled, and I had nothing to do while waiting around.
So… fuck it. we ball.
Let make a fucking drinking game in 2 days.
I sketched out a bunch of designs, trying to shrink everything into a small rectangular shape that could fit in a purse. But it’s nearly impossible—there are a lot of moving components in this game.
So… it’s still gonna be bulky anyway :(
I had to pivot.
What if we don’t worry about all the components? Just strip it down to the heart of the game—trade, build, settle, and terrorize your friends (jk jk).
I remembered when I was a kid, going to restaurants and getting those big A3 coloring/game sheets to keep us busy. So… what if we did that on paper instead?
But then—how are we supposed to fit everything into A3?
What about the houses, roads, resources, dev cards, the robber, the dice… how do we deal with all of that?
I don’t know. Maybe we 3D print tiny pieces and make them disposable… but that feels super wasteful. And imagine drunk people trying to keep track of all those tiny parts…
yeah, that’s not gonna end well.
