๐ TLDR
Directed strategy for UPL's Business Control Tower โ unifying planning across Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance, and replacing manual demand-forecasting workflows with an LLM-powered recommendation engine โ freeing $22M in working capital and cutting planning exceptions by 30% in Q4.
Company: UPL Ltd โ global agrochemical company operating across 130+ countries Pod: 8-person pod (5 data scientists, 1 data engineers, 2 visualization specialists) My role: Product Manager Timeline: July 2025 โ Present Note: The Business Control Tower includes what began as a standalone LLM-powered forecasting initiative โ the two were unified into a single control-tower product as the strategy matured.
Planning across Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance was siloed and largely manual:
Each function ran its own planning process with no shared view across the business
Demand-forecasting workflows were manual and error-prone โ analysts reviewed hundreds of SKU-level forecasts every cycle with no intelligent filter for which needed attention
Planning exceptions were frequent and expensive, tying up working capital unnecessarily
There was no single control layer that could see across all four functions and flag what actually needed leadership attention
Strategy: Directed the pod's strategy for the Business Control Tower, defining how Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance planning would be unified into one layer
Forecasting engine: Owned the replacement of manual demand-forecasting review with an LLM-powered recommendation engine โ defining the prompting strategy, output format, and confidence scoring
Cross-functional alignment: Worked directly with stakeholders across all four business functions to define what "control" meant for each โ a materially different definition for Finance than for Supply Chain
Metrics ownership: Planning exceptions and working capital were the two north-star metrics I tracked and reported against every cycle
A unified control layer sitting across Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance โ replacing four separate planning views with one. Automated exception detection surfaces the planning issues that actually need attention, instead of requiring manual monitoring across four disconnected systems.
