Car Safety Score helps you explore publicly available vehicle safety information, including VIN details, crash-test ratings, model-level recalls, consumer complaint records, common reported problem areas, and an independent safety score.

How Car Safety Score Works

You can scan or manually enter a 17-character Vehicle Identification Number to identify a vehicle.

The app may then retrieve available information such as:

• Vehicle make, model, year, and specifications
• NHTSA crash-test ratings
• Model-level recall information
• Consumer complaint records
• Common reported problem categories
• Fire, crash, or injury indicators included in public records
• Independent Safety Score
• Personalized vehicle safety summary

Initial data coverage primarily focuses on vehicles manufactured for or sold in the United States.

How to Scan a VIN

1. Open Car Safety Score.
2. Tap Scan VIN.
3. Allow camera access when requested.
4. Point the camera at the VIN located near the windshield or on the driver-side door label.
5. Confirm the recognized VIN.
