Cassidy is the protagonist of the story. She is from a small town in Kansas near where the event horizon occurred, and both her parents still live there. Cassidy is twenty-four and left Kansas after graduating from KU to pursue a life in the big city of Austin.
Cassidy has green eyes, red, curly hair, and a pale complexion. She is slightly underweight due to her current lifestyle and her prioritization of goals over self-care. Cassidy is around 5’4” and prefers comfort clothes over style.
Cassidy is a highly motivated individual willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish her goals, but she is also a giving individual to a fault. She tries to see the good in everyone and give others a chance.
Cassidy doesn’t care for country music and prefers to listen to lo-fi while reading a good book. She enjoys watching cooking shows and attempting recipes she likes, but hasn’t had time lately to pursue this beloved hobby. Cassidy relates more to nerd society but struggled to find a place back home, which prompted her to move after college. She misses her parents dearly and talks to them as often as she can.

Helena, the story's secondary character, runs into Cassidy while trying to make her way back home. Helena believes she is from a town near Cassidy's, since a variant of herself once lived near Cassidy. This conflict will add another layer to the story being told.

Helena meets up with Cassidy as she is traveling back to Kansas on the outskirts of Austin, Texas. Helena agrees to go with Cassidy because she has a running car and Cassidy needs someone with more know-how than her. She doesn’t like to talk about herself or her family much.
Helena has Hazel eyes and brown, short hair almost always in a ponytail and freckles covering her face. Helena is well-built and stands around 5’7” and prefers to wear jeans and a band t-shirt of Ak’chamel. Helena is an independent loner who prefers to rely on herself. She enjoys cult classics.
Helena has a good amount of knowledge on survival and how to live off the land. She knows her way around a wrench and a .32 caliber hunting rifle. Helena doesn’t trust anyone, including Cassidy, but views her as a way to get back home.
