Rant…

I wouldn’t say I manifested this, but… I need to start with the backstory of how this happened.

I came across an open call for Tom Yum Lab. They were looking for creatives, artists, engineers, etc. to submit an idea under the concept “YUM YUM YUM.”

So the word yum in Thai is basically a dish where the chef mixes a bunch of things together on purpose/randomly and somehow it turns into some delish food… like an insane salad, but delicious.

I liked the concept because I kinda live by that.

I’m a mix of random things.

Too international to fully feel American and too ’Merica to blend in whenever I visit home in Bangkok. Too much of a dreamer for pure STEM lol. (You have no idea how many times I drifted off, stared out the window thinking about some crazy idea, and got yelled at—or received a flying marker from my teachers growing up HAHAHA.) But I’m also too techy and analytical to be a full-blown artist.

And I think I’m finally at peace with who I am.

So yeah… I applied.

I definitely did NOT filter myself or my work, and surprisingly, I kept getting into the next round.

And then somehow…I GOT SELECTED!!!

I was paired with another artist, Fai Chittayasodhara, and together we got to make this little weird thing happen.

Actual Introduction

We came up with this idea because we wanted to incorporate two pieces of Thailand’s soft power:

Food. Duhhh.

And the other thing called Mu (มู).

It’s basically the superstitious/spiritual culture that runs in our blood. I’ve tried not to believe in it because, you know, ✨it can’t be scientifically proven✨.

But mannnn.

As you grow up, LIFE starts making less and less sense, and sometimes we look for something. Something to make life a little easier. Something that lets us believe shit will turn out fine.
