Collective Cartography is an adaptable participatory protocol, developed in response to the specific context, community and themes of each setting. It invites participants to map a shared landscape of attention. Working from a series of open prompts, individuals contribute to a growing collective map. The resulting installation becomes both a record of a group's experience and a framework for dialogue, revealing relationships between people, place and ideas.

This GroundWork Gallery residency iteration was designed around participants' shared experience of the Wash estuary’s landscape, ecology and culture. The session unfolded as a meditative, self-directed process before evolving into collective mark-making, collaborative clustering and conversation.

Collective Cartography is an evolving protocol developed across multiple projects and contexts. Previous iterations include the Wysing Arts / CRUNCH Ramsey Youth Project (2022), where psychogeographic mapping further evolved into a collaborative VR artwork and animation, and the Digital Rescue Lab Working Session at NFC Summit Lisbon (2026), where it was adapted for community consultation. The protocol creates conditions in which patterns emerge through participation.
