Event

An active listing was suppressed by Amazon, making the SKU unavailable for purchase while inventory remained in the fulfillment centre.

Detected by: daily Seller Central and Account Health check - part of the standing daily routine, not an escalation from Amazon.

Root cause

Amazon required certification documentation for the product category. The documentation existed but had not been submitted in advance, so the listing was suppressed pending compliance rather than for any defect in the product or the listing content.

Why it happened

  1. The listing was suppressed → certification documentation had not been submitted.
  2. Documentation had not been submitted → it was not requested at listing creation, only later.
  3. It was not held ready → compliance documents were not treated as a standing per-SKU requirement, only as a response to a request.
  4. They were not a standing requirement → the process had no step that collected compliance documentation at the sourcing stage.

The cause is a missing process step, not an error in execution.

Resolution

Step Action
1 Identified the specific documentation Amazon required for the category
2 Retrieved the certification from the supplier documentation file
3 Submitted through Seller Central and tracked the case to closure
4 Confirmed the listing reinstated and units returned to sellable

Resolution was straightforward because the certification existed, the delay was in locating and submitting it, not in obtaining it.

Controls introduced

Compliance documentation collected at sourcing - Certification is now requested from the supplier during the procurement phase and filed per SKU, before the product ever reaches a listing. It is a step in the replenishment SOP rather than a reaction to a suppression.

Account Health reviewed daily - Already part of the daily routine, this is what caught the suppression quickly. Retained deliberately the control that worked is worth naming, not just the one that failed.
