Data Widget tracks your cellular data against your own plan date, not the calendar month. Everything stays on your device.

Frequently asked questions

The number doesn't match iOS Settings › Cellular. Which one is right?

Neither is your bill. Data Widget reads this device's cellular byte counters and accumulates them from the plan date you set. iOS Settings counts from whenever you last reset its statistics, and both can differ from your carrier because of VPN traffic, Personal Hotspot, zero-rated apps, and the carrier's own rounding. Your carrier's bill is the source of truth — use Calibrate to line the app up with it.

How do I calibrate?

Settings › Calibrate current usage. Enter the used amount your carrier's app shows, then confirm. Do this once after installing, and again any time the two drift apart.

How often does the widget update?

It asks the system for a refresh about every 20 minutes; iOS decides when to actually run it, so the number can lag. The widget shows the time it was last updated — it is not real-time. Opening the app always samples immediately.

I restarted my iPhone and the number looks wrong.

Restarting resets the system's byte counters to zero. Data Widget detects that and keeps your ledger instead of starting over. What it cannot see is data used while neither the app nor a widget got to sample — if a lot of that happened, calibrate.

How do I set up my plan?

Onboarding walks you through plan type, start date, and allowance; all of it is editable later in Settings. Cycle length is not limited to monthly — you can enter a custom number of days for prepaid plans such as 60-day packs.

I have two SIMs / an eSIM.

Settings lets you choose: both lines combined, primary line only, or the two lines shown separately.

What is carryover?

For monthly plans, unused data from the previous cycle can be added to the current one. Turn it on in Settings if your carrier does that.

How do the alerts work?

Optional thresholds at 80%, 90%, and used-up. Each threshold fires at most once per billing cycle, and notification permission is required. There is also an optional alert for when you are burning data faster than the cycle is elapsing.
