Prototype testing with four real industry participants surfaced four friction points and confirmed one design success. The six decisions below represent the full post-testing response — what was changed immediately, what is under review, and what was intentionally left unchanged.
Each decision traces directly to a specific observation from a specific participant. None are speculative.

What was observed: During Works Archive testing, discovery-mode users (Alan, Nelly) did not find the filter bar because it sat below the fold on initial load. Both users scrolled past the artwork grid before locating it. Alan noted: “I didn’t realize I could narrow this down.”
Before: Filter bar rendered below page heading, not visible without scrolling on standard viewport heights.
After: Filter bar is sticky and visible from page load — positioned immediately adjacent to the “Works” heading, always above the artwork grid regardless of viewport.

Why this mattered: For a discovery-mode user, the filter is the primary navigation tool in the archive. If it isn’t found in the first 10 seconds, the archive reads as a static gallery rather than an explorable system. This was a usability failure with a straightforward fix.
