Hello again, void!
I have made lots and lots of progress on the game, and I hope to release the demo by the end of the summer. A lot of what I’m doing now is fine-tuning, changing things that bother me, etc, etc, etc…
My plan is to publish the steam page and demo together, and then work on building the rest of the game! Haha, that sounds like a lot of work, but most of the work was just learning how to do all of this. Even so, it might be awhile until the full game releases (truthfully, shooting for late 2027 but may be earlier or later depending on a lot of different factors). The reason for publishing the steam page earlier rather than later is in the hope that it will slowly gain recognition/wishlists- I know a lot of people hate when studios show off their game way before it’s released, but I promise its for marketing purposes! Hopefully in the mean time, I can show off the game to tide all our super-sleuths over!! LOL
Concerning the contents of the demo, there is one overall location to explore, one puzzle to solve, and three characters to meet (out of six!). The demo works as the prologue for the story, so even if you don’t play the demo, it will be in the full game. I can’t wait for you guys to explore everything else and unravel the story. I also hope to get lots of feedback, so good or bad, please don’t forget to let me know:)
Here are some more screenshots of progress being made

→ Dorm room interior, & very early character renderings… yikes!

Everything is, again, subject to change :)
Like I’ve said in previous dev-logs, my hope long-term is to be able to give lots of information to lovers of the Nancy Drew series who have always kind of wanted to make something of their own. These types of games are not the most accessible to make as they’re obviously not super popular anymore (compared to FPS or farming-sim style games which have lots of resources on how to build). I struggled a lot in the beginning finding the exact information I need. Luckily I have been able to have conversations with lots of cool people who are also making these games and they have pointed me in the right direction quite a few times! I would love to do the same for incoming creators, and build more detailed tutorials and descriptions on how exactly these games are created.
My question for you guys is: Would this be interesting to anybody? Have you ever wanted to make a Nancy Drew style game but didn’t know where to start? They’re not easy to make, but learning how to make them is not hard! More than anything, the thing you need most to make this style of game is TIME.
Thanks so much for reading, hopefully my next update will be when the Demo releases and all of these dev logs will finally be read by someone other than myself! 😛 Thanks to anyone who has read this, and please feel free to reach out to me on instagram/reddit if you would like to chat about my game or anything else:))
