Engineering · Senior · Reports to CTO · Onsite — San Francisco · Full-time
Role overview
You'll be one of the first engineers at Skillset, and the one closest to the product. We have an early version in market, but most of what Skillset will become is still ahead of us. You'll own product surfaces end-to-end — from customer conversation to shipped feature — drive the product and design decisions inside those areas, and set the bar for product quality for everyone who joins after you.
You'll work directly with the CTO, ship to production every week, and sit in on customer calls so the feedback loop from "users hate this" to "we fixed it" is hours, not sprints.
To be clear: this is an engineering role, not a product management role. You'll write production code every day. The difference from the Full Stack role is emphasis — you own the product interfaces and user experience, while Full Stack leans more toward backend and infrastructure.
What you'll do
- Own product surfaces from 0 to 1: scope, design, build, ship, iterate
- Turn customer conversations directly into product — you'll talk to the teams who use Skillset every day
- Build the interfaces where IT teams set up, monitor, and govern AI agents
- Own the user experience end-to-end — how the product looks, feels, and engages with the rest of the platform (the Full Stack role leans more toward backend and infrastructure; this role leans more toward the product surface)
- Shape our internal engineering workflow by using coding agents aggressively
What we're looking for
- You've shipped products from 0 to 1 and want to do it again
- Strong product sense and design taste — you can go from ambiguous customer problem to shipped UI without a PM in the loop
- You thrive in intense, early-stage environments with high ownership and short feedback loops
- Significant experience building and operating production systems
- You use or are excited about using AI coding tools aggressively and thoughtfully
Strong candidates also have
- Previous startup experience (founder, founding engineer, or early team)
- Frontend / full-stack depth with strong UX instincts
