Being a full-stack engineer at Usawa

A full-stack engineer at Usawa builds and scales Usawa’s product(s 😉). You will work across the frontend, backend and infrastructure, shaping features that are used by doctors, patients, and internal teams. You will work closely with the product, clinical, and AI team to turn complex workflows into simple, reliable, elegant and tasteful product experiences.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone with strong full-stack engineering skills and good product judgment. A strong candidate is comfortable building across a diverse stack, while being able to adapt as the company matures.

Technical skills:

• Experience with frontend and backend development.
  • Python and Vue experience are a plus, but any worthy demonstration of good experience with other similar language/framework is sufficient (React, Scala, Go, Rust).
• Ability to build reliable, maintainable, and scalable systems.
  • Experience with distributed systems, concurrency topics and durable execution frameworks (DBOS, Procrastinate) are also a plus but the most importantly is the willingness to learn and be thoughtful of these topics.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (like Terraform) and being comfortable with CI/CD is a plus.
• Database experience with PostgreSQL or similar.
• Knows their way around AI, speeding things up but never in detriment of code quality. Doesn’t let the AI be the one doing the thinking, and is not proud of shipping AI Slop.

• Wants to build things properly, even when that means rethinking or rebuilding something from scratch. Not afraid of doing mistakes and throwing things away.
• Is allergic to tech debt and avoids shortcuts that create future problems.
• Has a strong ownership and accountability mindset.
• Is obsessed with details, quality, and reliability.

Most importantly you need to be agile making technical decisions, moving fast without compromising code quality, and taking ownership of what you build. We are looking for someone who cares about the mission, the product and the standards of the engineering work behind it. You will play an important role in helping Usawa scale its technology and operations for a product that will deliver healthcare values to hundreds of thousands of patients.
