A goaltending violation occurs when all three criteria are met:

  1. A player touches the ball during a try for goal.
  2. The ball is on its downward flight.
  3. The ball is entirely above the rim level and has a chance to go in.

If all criteria are met, the score is awarded (or disallowed) according to the rules.
