01. The Problem :

People want to be better. Life makes that very hard.

  1. Speed over presence⚡: Most people check their phone within 60 seconds of waking up. The algorithm decides their first thought not them.
  2. Global movement, no home🌍: The HKL community spans 60+ countries but lived in scattered WhatsApp groups and annual gatherings. Between those moments, connection disappeared.
  3. Wanting to be better, but how?💔: People resonated with Humility, Kindness, and Love as daily values but had no structured, gentle way to practice them and stay accountable.

“Every morning, millions of people intend to be more patient, more kind, more present. By 9am, life has usually won.” - the core tension the design had to resolve

02.  Who I Designed For :

Two real people. Two different needs.

Through conversations with the HKL team, two distinct user types emerged clearly. Every design decision was weighed against both of them not against a hypothetical average user.

03.   The Research :

Before a single screen, three conversations. I spoke with the HKL core team before starting the design. Not to validate ideas, to understand what they were actually afraid of:

What these conversations produced: Three features that weren't in the original brief : the daily streak, the global practitioner ranking, and Babaji quote push notifications. Each one is a direct design response to a fear the team expressed: "people will join and disappear."
