When a hive first appears within the world, they establish Hive Claims. With additional mods like Xaero’s or Journeymap these claims become visible.
Example image, Xaero’s displaying Transparent Hive Claims. (CHUNK WIDE)

Hive Claims are chunk wide claims that assert physical territorial ownership on an area. Within a Hive Claim Xenomorphs will freely explore and travel alongside hunt and send parties. As a hive expands it will create more Hive Claims on chunks to establish further control over an area.
Within every claim, a hive can only have 3 vents on the surface.
The cost of a Hive Claim is on a growth factor. Whilst at a base costing 25 Biomass, it increases with every claim by 0.05 of 25. For example,
0.05 x 25 = 1.25. The next claim would then cost 26.25 Biomass and so fourth as more claims are made.
Hive Claims at a base cost a hive 25 Biomass to develop.
Individual Cost - 25 Biomass.
A Queen at max can only have 18x18 Hive Claims. However, an Empress can have 23x23 Hive Claims.
(These are by chunks, 18x18 would be 18x18 chunks in total and so fourth.)
Hive Claims can be destroyed by burning down any resin within the claim and the hive room / tunnel attached. Through this, players can actually take back territory taken by Xenomorphs.
Hive Claims also are individual to every hive besides Empress Lineage hives. These claims when in contact with another hives claims may result in a Hive War.
