Passer domesticus · Irish: Gealbhan Binne
A noisy, sociable regular of gardens, farmyards and city streets.
Habitat: Gardens, hedges and buildings, almost always near people. | Season: All year
Highly sociable, forming noisy chattering flocks; nests loosely under eaves and in hedges. Numbers have fallen sharply in recent decades.
House Sparrows have followed people and farming for thousands of years and rarely nest far from buildings; despite still being common, their numbers have fallen enough to earn Amber conservation status in Ireland.
