Have you ever wondered how to use AI in your studies ethically and effectively?
Over the past five years, artificial intelligence has become deeply integrated into our lives — including as a tool that many students use to help with their academic work.
That’s why, starting this academic year, ITMO has introduced principles for using AI technologies in the educational process. They provide rules and recommendations for students and faculty on how to use AI tools ethically while maintaining academic integrity and taking responsibility for their own work.
Below, we’ve highlighted the key principles. You can find the full version of the document here.
Yes. At ITMO, the ability to work with AI tools is considered a basic skill for a modern professional — much like knowing English or being able to search for information online.
Today, knowing how to use AI means much more than simply writing prompts.
We want you to use AI tools effectively and safely, which is why these skills are becoming part of the educational process itself.
You understand how generative algorithms work, know the basics of prompt engineering, and understand where AI can make mistakes or produce hallucinations.
You don’t take AI-generated answers at face value. You analyze the results, verify facts using independent sources, and identify inaccuracies.
You maintain academic integrity, respect copyright, and never share confidential information with publicly available chatbots.
You understand which tasks AI can actually improve, which tool to choose, and how to integrate it into your workflow.
