Write any time. Every message is read by the person who wrote the app, and most get an answer within two working days.

To save a round trip, include the app version from Settings, your device and system version, and what you were compressing when it happened. The Support and Feedback link inside the app fills the first two in for you.

Getting started

  1. Open HydroPress and allow access to your photo library. The grid loads

biggest first, so the items worth pressing are already at the top.

  2. Tap items to select them. The bar at the bottom counts what you picked and

estimates what you would get back.

  3. Tap Compress. Choose whether to keep the original or replace it.

  4. When the run finishes you are told exactly how much was freed.

Questions people ask

It says it freed 4 GB, but my storage has not changed

Replacing an original moves it to Recently Deleted, where iOS holds it for 30 days before removing it. Until that album is emptied, the space is still in use. Open Photos, go to Albums, then Recently Deleted, then Delete All, and the space comes back immediately.

There is no way for an app to link straight to that album, so the button in HydroPress opens Photos and the text tells you where to go from there.

Can I get an original back after replacing it?

Yes, for 30 days, from Recently Deleted in Photos. After that album is emptied, no. This is why HydroPress asks before the run rather than after, and why Keep Both exists.

Why was an item skipped?

Because compressing it would have gained little or nothing. HydroPress measures each file before it commits, and anything already efficient is left alone and labelled rather than shaved down for a few percent. A compressor that always produces a smaller file is one that quietly damages what was already fine.

Why do two clips of the same length come out completely different sizes?

Because the app trial encodes a few moments of each video, scores the result, and picks the smallest setting that still holds up. A still scene compresses much further than a moving one at the same visible quality.

What do the quality settings do?

Setting What it does Needs Pro
High Smallest safe reduction. Hard to tell from the original No
Medium A good balance. Caps video at 1080p and 30 fps Yes
Low Smallest files. Caps video at 720p and 30 fps Yes
