Purpose

A semi-structured discussion guide used across all four user interviews. The structure was kept consistent so cross-participant patterns could surface in synthesis; the questions were open-ended so participants would describe their experiences in their own words rather than respond to leading framings.

The guide was designed to surface:

• How participants currently send money internationally — tools, routines, and workarounds
• Where their existing experience breaks down — timing, fees, transparency, recipient friction
• What they currently believe about crypto and AI in financial contexts
• The conditions under which they would extend trust to an AI assistant
• The conditions under which they would tolerate crypto rails as infrastructure

Conduct

Each session ran 30–45 minutes, remote (video). Participants were told the product was conceptual and that the goal was to understand their experiences, not to evaluate the product. Each session moved through five sections in sequence; follow-up probes were used where a participant’s answer suggested a related thread worth pulling.

Section 1 — Warm-Up

Establish rapport and ground the conversation in the participant’s actual financial behavior before introducing FXpress concepts.

• Tell me a bit about how you manage your money and what financial apps you use day-to-day.
• Walk me through the last time you sent money to a family member or friend in another country.
