Born Into Crisis
Moses was born during a time when Pharaoh had ordered all Hebrew baby boys to be killed to control the growing Israelite population (Exodus 1).
His mother hid him for three months, then placed him in a basket in the Nile River.
Raised in Pharaoh’s Palace
Pharaoh’s daughter found and adopted Moses, raising him as an Egyptian prince.
Though raised in royalty, Moses knew he was Hebrew and felt a connection to his people.
The Turning Point – Murder and Escape
As a young man, Moses saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew slave.
In a moment of anger and justice, Moses killed the Egyptian and hid the body (Exodus 2:11–12).
When the murder was discovered, Pharaoh sought to kill him, so Moses fled to the land of Midian.
A New Life in the Wilderness
In Midian, Moses defended a woman at a well, and their father Jethro welcomed him. Moses married Jethro’s daughter, Zipporah, and became a shepherd—living in obscurity for 40 years.
By Chapter 3…
Moses is now 80 years old, tending sheep on the backside of the desert, far from the life of power and privilege he once knew.
He likely believes his time has passed. Life “is what it is.”
Then suddenly—God speaks from the burning bush—and everything changes.
