Identification

Behaviour

Shy, often only glimpsed in flight; famous for burying acorns in autumn, helping oaks spread. Jay sightings in Irish gardens have been rising in recent years.

Did you know?

A single Jay can bury several thousand acorns in a good autumn as a winter larder; the ones it never digs up often sprout, making the Jay an accidental planter of oak woods.
