This project tells the story of a young girl who has lost her sense of self and direction. As she chases a butterfly—an emblem of hope and transformation—she stumbles into a surreal realm where she meets a godlike figure. Rather than offering immediate answers, the god places before her a journey: a symbolic venture through unknown spaces, emotional trials, and internal darkness. Along the way, she confronts despair, temptation to give up, and the dissonant voices of fear. But with the help of a gentle presence—a pair of white, comforting arms—she finds the strength to continue. In the end, she returns transformed, having discovered courage, belief, and peace within herself.
The visual and conceptual language of this work draws strong inspiration from Henri Matisse’s paper cut-outs, particularly his ability to express emotion and movement through bold, simplified forms. The dimensionality and surreal architecture of the world—endless staircases, looping spaces, and paradoxical environments—are inspired by the works of M.C. Escher and other visual explorations of impossible space. These references are reimagined through a handcrafted, tactile approach suited for children’s storytelling.
This project was developed as a conceptual children’s book, with the intent of helping young readers explore complex emotions such as fear, self-doubt, and perseverance. Through a symbolic adventure, the story gently encourages children to embrace vulnerability, discover inner strength, and believe in the quiet power of love and self-trust.
