Project: Mashjar Juthour (Roots)

What is Juthour?

Juthour is a living sanctuary on a mountain near Ramallah. It is a place where Palestinian land, trees, wildlife, and people are cared for together.

The project is turning a once‑degraded hillside into a vibrant arboretum (tree museum) and ecological education centre, so that the land can stay healthy and protected for generations to come.

The Big Idea

At its heart, Juthour is about:

• Protecting ancestral land and keeping it in Palestinian hands.
• Healing nature through careful planting, soil care, and water harvesting.
• Creating a safe home for trees, plants, birds, and animals.
• Welcoming people for learning, rest, and connection with nature.

The long‑term dream is to have this land recognised and protected as a nature preserve for the next 100–200 years.

Why It Matters

Across Palestine, nature is under pressure from rapid construction, pollution, and land loss. Many people grow up without easy access to clean green spaces, or ecological awareness to sustain them.

Juthour offers:

• A quiet, natural space close to Ramallah where families, students, and visitors can breathe, walk, and learn.
• A chance for children and young people to meet the trees, plants, and wildlife of their homeland.
• A living example of how we can live with the land, not just build on top of it.
