LocHub is an Unreal Engine editor plugin for AI-assisted localization. Push your project's strings to a local translation workflow, let the AI provider of your choice translate them, review and approve the results in one place, and pull them back as ordinary Unreal localization data.

How it works

  1. Set Up creates or completes the project's Game localization target, with the cultures you pick in the plugin's project settings.
  2. Push sends the gathered source strings to LocHub's local service. A dry run shows what would be added, changed or retired before anything is sent.
  3. Run a job to have your AI provider translate a batch of strings into one or more cultures, with an optional AI judge pass that flags translations needing a second look. You see a cost estimate before the job runs.
  4. Review the results in a grid: open flagged rows to read the judge's notes, edit any translation by hand, keep a glossary of fixed terms, and answer questions raised about specific strings.
  5. Pull writes the approved translations back into your localization archives and compiles .locres โ€” plain Unreal localization data that does not need LocHub to keep running.

Features

Push / Pull on real Unreal targets

Reads and writes your existing localization targets, archives and .locres.

AI translation with a judge

An optional second model reviews every translation and flags the ones that need a human.

Cost estimate first

Strings already covered by translation memory or cached answers are never re-billed.

Review grid

Per-string history, judge notes and manual overrides, filtered by status or path.

Glossary and Inbox

Fixed terms (CSV import/export) and questions about specific strings, answered in one place.

Coverage and CI

Spot player-visible text that bypasses localization; run Push/Pull from a commandlet.

Bring your own AI

Bring your own key: Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI, DeepSeek, Google Gemini or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, including local models (Ollama, LM Studio) โ€” or, for Anthropic, your own Claude subscription via Claude Code, no key needed.

Length Check

Translations that would overflow your UI are flagged, and the AI is told the length limit up front.

Translation exchange

Work with human translators: export to XLIFF or CSV, import their work back through the same checks.

Requirements

Unreal Engine 5.6, 5.7 or 5.8
Platforms Windows (tested). macOS and Linux: the code is written to be portable, built from source, not tested by the author.
Node.js 22.11 or newer, for LocHub's small local service on 127.0.0.1
AI provider Your own API key for Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI (Grok), DeepSeek or Google Gemini โ€” or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, including a local model server (Ollama, LM Studio), that needs no key โ€” or, for Anthropic, a Claude Code CLI on your machine, signed in to your Claude subscription, instead of a key

What leaves your machine: only the text of the strings you send for translation, to the AI provider you configured, under your own key. LocHub's service listens on localhost only, and the plugin makes no other network calls. Your key is read from an environment variable and is never stored by LocHub.
