Aegithalos caudatus · Irish: Meantán Earrfhada
A tiny pink-and-white "flying lollipop" that travels in family parties.
Habitat: Parks, hedgerows, woodland edges and scrub. | Season: All year
Moves through gardens and hedges in noisy, constantly-chattering family flocks of six to twenty; builds an extraordinary dome nest of moss, lichen and spider silk.
Long-tailed Tits often help feed chicks that aren't their own — a rare and cooperative form of parenting seen in only a handful of Irish birds.
