This Privacy Policy describes how Memoa ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using Memoa, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Journal Content: All text, images, videos, audio recordings, and files you create or upload within the app are stored on your device and, if you enable sync, encrypted on our servers.

Metadata: We collect metadata associated with your entries, including timestamps, mood selections, ratings, weather data, location data (only if you grant permission), and tags you assign.

Account Information: If you create an account for cross-device synchronization, we collect your email address and authentication credentials. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.

Usage Data: We collect anonymized usage statistics such as feature engagement, crash reports, and performance metrics to improve the Service. This data does not include your journal content.

Device Information: Basic device information including device model, operating system version, and app version may be collected for troubleshooting and compatibility purposes.

2. AI Processing and Your Data

Memoa offers three AI processing modes that you can configure at any time:

On-Device Only: All AI processing happens locally on your device. No journal content is ever sent to external servers for AI analysis. Cloud AI: Journal content is transmitted to our secure cloud AI service for processing. Data is encrypted in transit and processed in isolated sessions. We do not use your journal content to train AI models. AI Off: No AI features are active. Your journal remains entirely local.

You can change this setting at any time in the app's privacy settings.

1. Data Storage and Security

All journal data is encrypted at rest using industry-standard encryption (AES-256) on your device. When synchronization is enabled, data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3 and stored encrypted on our servers. We implement strict access controls, regular security audits, and continuous monitoring to protect your data.

We do not sell your data. Period.

We do not share your personal information or journal content with third parties except in the following limited circumstances:

Service Providers: We may engage trusted third-party service providers to perform functions on our behalf, such as cloud hosting and analytics. These providers are contractually bound to protect your data and may not use it for any other purpose. Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal requests by public authorities.
