Objective
Boost Miter’s search rankings and topical authority by developing a keyword strategy, website architecture, content clusters, keyword mapping, and internal linking plan, all optimized for a low-DR construction tech website.
Context:
Miter is a construction project management software with low domain authority competing against established players like Procore and Buildertrend. This strategy focuses on capturing long-tail, low-competition keywords to build topical authority before targeting high-competition commercial terms.
Step 1: Keyword Research & Search Intent Analysis
- Started by generating seed keywords with ChatGPT and Claude using Miter’s product description.
- Categorized keywords by search intent (informational, commercial, transactional, navigational).
- Imported all suggestions into Ahrefs Keyword Explorer
- Then selected keywords with low difficulty and Moderate-to-high search volume
- Re-prompted Claude and ChatGPT twice to refine the keyword set and ensure strong coverage of commercial & transactional terms.
Why this approach: For a low-DR site, targeting high-volume, competitive keywords would be futile. By focusing on low-KD keywords with moderate volume, Miter can rank faster and build authority incrementally.
Step 2: Audience Insights & Keyword Research
- Identified organic keywords from community conversations by:
- Crawling 5 relevant subreddits (e.g., r/ConstructionTech, r/Homebuilding) for top-ranking organic keywords in Ahrefs
- Crawling Quora threads related to construction management software
- Selected low KD, Top 10 ranking keywords with meaningful volume to uncover long-tail opportunities.
Why Reddit and Quora: Construction professionals actively discuss pain points in these communities. Mining organic keywords from these discussions reveals the language real users use, not just what keyword tools suggest, leading to better search intent alignment.
Step 3: Website Architecture Design
- Designed a scalable, SEO-friendly site architecture to organize content logically and support future growth:
Proposed Structure:
- Home
- Features(Hub)
- Feature Pages (e.g., Estimating, Scheduling, Job Costing, Equipment Tracking)
- Solutions (Hub)
- Builder-Type Pages (e.g., General Contractors, Speciality Contractors, Remodelers, Home Builders)
