A Memoir is not about what you did. It’s about what you did with it.
In short, a memoir is a piece of writing told from one area of your expertise that illustrates something you know, resulting from something you experienced.
You are the illustration of something universal. But what is that thing? And how do you make sure that at the end of it all, other people will want to read about it?
That’s where I come in.
My goal is to decipher WHY you want to write this, then unpack and translate the universal theme of your life, digging out the moments that define you and telling them your way.
It’s tough to do it alone! You have a hundred ideas but no idea how to structure them into a narrative that makes sense.
Maybe you just don’t have time for the hours and hours you’ll have to spend researching, fact-checking and writing. Which means you’ve procrastinated for ages, and you’re still no closer to getting it done.
I will guide you through the parts where you might usually get stuck. I’ll offer motivation if you feel you’re running out of steam. I will help you banish procrastination for good and make sure you’re always meeting your goals.
Together we’ll dig into your core life experiences, construct a narrative around what they taught you and thus, how they shaped you, and how they led you to where you are now.
We’ll reveal the evolution from someone who did not know ‘something’ to someone who did.
Our journey starts by asking the simple question: What is the one, unifying theme that will bring your life lessons and stories together?
During our scheduled conversations I'll draw out the details that matter in your world. There’s no need to show up with a fully-formed narrative or a clear beginning. Finding that is exactly what I'm here for.
We will collect any pre-published articles or related media, any notes or diary entries, and any other materials that will help me shape the story. I may even ask for a playlist of songs you enjoyed at various times.
We will also make a list of any people who might be either featured, or be willing to give a short interview to verify any facts, tell a story and/or nudge your memory.
