The 2023 season is the 11th year for the Injustice League. And it’s also the beginning of a new era for us - one in which we become an 18 team league permanently, after testing the waters back in 2021.
But with a change as big as this one, there are bound to be some drawbacks. In this case, the main issue is that instead of 8/10 teams making finals, only 8/18 teams will. Further to this, with no Dirt League anymore, there is no more relegation to loom over the poorly performing teams. This creates a risk of teams at the lower end of the ladder losing interest towards the end of the season, especially if they know they can’t make the finals.
For this reason, as part of this new 18 team system, we are completely re-hauling the overall rankings system. Previously, the system worked like this:
1 point: Awarded if your team is eliminated in the first week of the finals. 2 points: Awarded if your team is eliminated in the second week of the finals. 3 points: Awarded if your team is eliminated in the third week of the finals (the preliminary finals) 4 points: Awarded if your team loses the Grand Final 20 points: Awarded if your team wins the Grand Final.
It became clear to us that this system needed a revamp in order to keep everyone as engaged as possible throughout the entire season. As such, the new scoring system will be as follows:
30 points: Premier 13 points: Grand Final loss 12 points: Preliminary Final loss 11 points: Semi-Final loss 10 points: Elimination Final loss 6 points: Finishing 9th 5 points: Finishing 10th 4 points: Finishing 11th 3 points: Finishing 12th 2 points: Finishing 13th 1 point: Finishing 14th 0 points: Finishing 15th -1 point: Finishing 16th
This will go into effect for the 2023 season onwards, but will not be backdated, so the current standings will remain unchanged going into this season. As previously, players on equal points will be ranked according to the number of seasons played (the least seasons played, the higher the ranking). If the number of seasons and points are the same, they are tied. Due to the Dirt Leaguers joining (or re-joining) the current standings look like this heading into the 2023 season:
1st: Alan (60 points / 10 seasons 2nd: Kris (59 points / 10 seasons) 3nd: Brenton (41 points / 10 seasons), Gavin (41 points / 10 seasons) 5th: Tom (28 points / 8 seasons) 6th: Gabriel (25 points / 6 seasons) 7th: Lachlan (23 points / 5 seasons) 8th: Rob (23 points / 6 seasons) 9th: Shay (17 points / 9 seasons) 10th: Natalie (14 points / 5 seasons) 11th: Will (8 points / 4 seasons) 12th: Chris (6 points / 4 seasons) 13th: Mitch (7 points /2 seasons) 14th: Mark (3 points / 3 seasons) 15th: Andy (1 point / 1 season) 16th: Kaan (0 points / 0 seasons), Peter (0 points / 0 seasons) 18th: Kristin (0 points / 1 season)
Insanely close race for the #1 spot after Kris’ win last year. But with the premiership now being worth 30 points instead of 20 (remaining heavily weighted towards the premier), the opportunity for former Dirt Leaguers to catch up is greater than ever. Although on the flip side, I’d suggest you don’t come last - as you don’t want to be the first person who’s season is so bad they’d have been better off not playing at all.
Good luck!
