The Bitcoin Conference's appeal was rejected. Simply Bitcoin is contesting the decision, says it complies with the rules, and says at least 15 members of its team depend on the channel for revenue. Bitcoin.com News was removed during a Korea Blockchain Week broadcast, restored after review, and removed again the next day.
Bitcoiners already have a phrase for this kind of story. Not your keys, not your coins.
We already believe this
Nobody in this industry needs convincing on custody. We move coins off exchanges. We argue over hardware wallets and multisig. We treat any third party that can freeze, lose or lend our Bitcoin as a risk to remove. Many of us extend the same logic along the whole supply chain, from the node to the wallet to the signing device.
Then we prioritise building the business on an audience we hold no keys to. A YouTube channel, an X account and a LinkedIn following behave like balances held by a custodian. The custodian can freeze them without naming a reason, and the appeal goes back to the same custodian. Not your list, not your audience.
The case for the platform, and why it is not enough
YouTube has real strengths. It gives a small Bitcoin company a distribution network it could never build alone, and for education at scale it is hard to beat. Use it. Use it the way a sensible Bitcoiner uses an exchange: for access, never for storage.
This is also not a YouTube against Bitcoin story. Nothing reported so far shows YouTube treating Bitcoin as a category. The policy it cites covers content that encourages dangerous or illegal activity, and phishing aimed at wallet information, with exceptions for educational and documentary material. Bitcoin unfortunately sits next to a great deal of that behaviour: giveaways, wallet scams, impersonation. A system that scans at scale will sometimes treat a credible Bitcoin business as one of them.
In April, YouTube removed Bitcoin.com's channel under the same label, and TheStreet reported that its appeal was reportedly rejected. Bitcoin.com said YouTube runs scam ads with no moderation, which is its claim, not an established fact. The pattern is the point. A platform decision is a verdict on your credibility, made by a system that does not know you.
