The goal today was to create a telemetry_writer that could write to the telemetry.json in real time and have the telemetry_reader read from it and update the log/print to the console in real-time.

Got a little stuck because the writer/reader were printing a few lines and getting stuck. Both in the console and in the file.

I experimented with buffering and reading lines until realizing that the biggest fix was running one file from the VS Code terminal and the other from my MAC terminal. Since I was trying to run both in the same window, it was stalling (but still working because when I ended the program, the error log updated) and not printing anything after a few times.

I still haven’t figured out how to fix the buffering issue with the files, but I’m not 100% sure I’m going to go down that rabbit hole yet. I’m hoping to transition this to an SQLite system or something a little more suited for real-time data, so that should hopefully fix the buffering problem.

At some point, I’d like to explore this a little deeper—is it purely the OS or VSCode buffering or does it have to do with the way I open and append or read from the files? Do I need to try to lock them or switch up how I open the files?

I also had to change my telemetry.json file to a telemetry.ndjson. Instead of an array of objects, each new line is an independent object.
