All Saints School Mass: We celebrated our All Saints Mass this week with our 1st and 3rd grade classes leading us. All Saints Day celebrates all of the saints in heaven, so we may look to their example of how to live our faith. Throughout November, students are learning about saints and the virtues they modeled. Each week, morning announcements highlight saints who reflect the virtues we’re learning. So far, we’ve explored:
Through their lives, our students see how the saints continue to inspire us today.

Halloween Parade: We hosted our annual Halloween Parade this morning. What fun it was to see everyone’s costume! Before our big parade we had a ‘ribbon cutting’ to celebrate our new roof on Dillon Hall. And our afterschool program, MUSE Band played us some spooky music for the parade. May all of our students and families enjoy safe Halloween activities this weekend.

Learning, Growing, and Serving: Our students are learning, growing, and serving by leaps and bounds. Our University of Portland nurses have been visiting classrooms to teach our students nutrition lessons including the food pyramid and types of hunger such as physical hunger or practical hunger (eating breakfast even when not actually hungry to make sure you have enough energy until you are hungry or are able to eat again.) Our preschoolers painted pumpkins. The kindergartners painted pumpkins and examined pumpkin seeds in science. The first graders are building number sense and the foundations of place value through games. The second graders designed and created prototypes for bird feeders in science. The third graders enjoyed writing spooky stories. In fourth grade, students are learning to read expository texts and comparing phrases that use addition or multiplication. The fifth graders created artistic pumpkins. The sixth graders used microscopes to study a variety of different cells such as plant, animal, and one celled organisms. The seventh graders are learning how geography has affected the development of human civilizations in Africa. In eighth grade, the students are practicing outlining and writing an essay about types of bias for the play 12 Angry Men. In PE*,* our students played indoor soccer and Halloween themed games like Zombie Tag, Halloween Candy, and Broomsticks. Our **students continue to develop their eager minds striving to achieve a higher level of learning.
