Author First: AI Assisted | Steve Castledine | Working v5, 8 October 2026 | Review date: 9 October 2026
Scope: non-fiction attention, progression and reader effort. Complete supplied body text processed; no production-file or external verification claimed.
This review offers Casover's editorial assessment of your manuscript. It identifies strengths and explains where, in our judgement, changes could improve the reading experience. Recommendations are supported by examples and reasons, but editorial judgement allows for different interpretations. You decide which suggestions serve the book you want to write. You may adopt, adapt or decline them.
The book moves through the author's actual tasks rather than treating speed as the only measure of progress. The early chapters prepare readers to judge assistance; the central teaching chapters provide the detail needed to act; the later chapters separate publication and marketing choices. The appendices can be consulted by task. Their density is purposeful rather than a reason to read every field straight through.
Chapter Five is the longest main chapter at 4,889 calculated words. That is not itself a defect: the chapter provides contrasting examples and explicitly offers a quicker route for readers ready to prepare a first brief. Chapter Ten similarly supplies a minimum plan. These are useful ways of controlling effort without cutting necessary teaching.
The supported local adjustment is PA-01, the interruption of the voice-profile discussion in Chapter Seven. Move the practice block after the completed voice explanation and retain both subjects. There is no evidenced reason to equalise chapters, add exercises throughout or shorten all reminders. PA identifies findings in this Pacing Review; final priorities will be reconciled in the Final Editorial Summary. Start with that one local move, then preserve the reference structure.
This practical guide is both sequential instruction and a reference book. The Introduction explicitly permits task-led entry while naming the required earlier chapters. The overall rhythm alternates explanation, demonstrations, briefs, practical decisions and recaps. Slower passages in Chapters Three and Eight earn their space because definitions and claim checks have consequences.
The book advances from choosing the work to selecting help, carrying it out and inspecting the result. It does not accelerate towards a fictional climax. Reading-time estimates and measured reader reactions are unavailable.
The two maps below record each unit's function, reader demand, supporting evidence, likely effect and recommended action. Calculated word counts for every unit are recorded in the Complete Manuscript Review's internal coverage record; they are not reading-time estimates.
