Paperpal MCP Server

Run Paperpal's manuscript checks on your own document from inside your AI assistant. Upload a .docx or .pdf file in the chat and get Grammar, Plagiarism, Reference, and Journal Fit results back on a live card, with links straight into the full Paperpal reports and editor.

The Paperpal MCP server is available through the official Claude and ChatGPT connector directories. It requires a Paperpal account—you sign in once when you connect, and every check runs on your own account, under your own plan and quota.

What it does

Paperpal MCP exposes Paperpal's pre-submission checks over the Model Context Protocol, so your AI assistant can:

Take a manuscript you attach directly in the chat, or let you pick a file in a Paperpal upload card.
Run up to four checks in one pass: Grammar, Plagiarism, References, Journal Fit.
Show a live progress card that refreshes itself while checks run, then turns into a results card.
Hand you deep links into Paperpal — the plagiarism sources report, the reference-check report, the journal fit report, and the Paperpal editor with grammar suggestions ready to review and incorporate in your document.
Answer follow-up questions in plain language about results already shown ("what's my similarity score?", "which references need fixing?", "help me fix the plagiarism issues") without re-running anything.
Show your remaining words / edits for each check and tell you when a check is available or excluded from your current Paperpal plan.

Use it to run pre-submission checks—checking similarity, verifying references and citations, polishing grammar, and checking journal compliance.

The four checks

Check	What you get back	Notes
Grammar	Hands your document to the Paperpal editor, where grammar and language suggestions are already generated. The card gives you a View Edits link into the editor.	Runs on .docx files only. Not available for PDF — if you ask for Grammar on a PDF, the assistant tells you to upload a `.docx` instead. Consumes your Paperpal Grammar balance.
Plagiarism	An overall similarity percentage (or percentage range) plus a See sources link to the full matched-sources report.	Consumes words from your plagiarism quota, based on document length. Full report available on Prime and Pro plans.
References	A count of references to review, or "No References Flagged" when the list is clean, plus a View Report link. While it runs, the card shows its real progress stage ("Extracting references", "Analysing references").	This is a paid feature. Available on Paperpal Prime and Pro plans only.
Journal Fit	A compliance verdict —No issues found, Warning, or Critical issues — plus a View Report link to the full journal-fit report.	Checks your manuscript against common journal submission requirements. Full report available on Paperpal Pro plans only.

You can run any combination in a single request. Checks that can't run (Grammar on a PDF, References on a free plan, a check whose monthly quota is used up) are reported with the reason.

Not part of this connector

Paperpal's other features — AI Detection, AI Review, Rewrite / Paraphrase / Trim, Research and Cite, Translate, Templates, Chat with PDF, Agents, illustrate, Library and Literature Search — are not available through the MCP connector. Use paperpal.com for those.
