Privacy Policy — Smilin
Last updated: August 31, 2026
In short
Smilin collects no data. No information ever leaves your iPhone. No account, no server, no tracking.
1 - Data collected
Smilin does not collect any personal data.
The app does not transmit any information to external servers, does not store any data outside your device, and does not share any information with third parties.
2 - Camera
Smilin uses your iPhone's front camera to: — Analyze your facial expression in real time to detect a smile — Capture photos when a smile is detected or when you trigger manually
This analysis is entirely local. It is performed on your device using Apple's Vision framework. Facial landmark data is computed in memory and immediately discarded after each frame — it is never stored or transmitted.
The camera is active only while the app is open and in the foreground. It never operates in the background.
3 - Face data and biometric information
Smilin uses Apple's Vision framework to compute facial landmarks (lip corner positions, lip aperture, cheek elevation) in real time, frame by frame. This is used solely to determine whether you are smiling, in order to trigger photo capture.
Face data is never collected, stored, shared, or retained. Specifically:
4 - Photos
Photos captured by Smilin remain on your device. They are saved to your Photos library only upon your explicit action, using the native iOS share sheet.
Smilin has write-only access to your Photos library — it cannot read or access your existing photos.
5 - Preferences
Smilin stores your usage preferences locally on your device (settings, streak status, calibration preferences) using iOS's standard UserDefaults mechanism. This data never leaves your device.
6 - No tracking, no advertising
